Jonesville high schoolers Julia Mandrelle and Harper James came into the middle school on Friday, January 9th as members of the Hillsdale County Community Foundation YOUTH. The YOUTH Board’s January campaign is the promotion of one of their new slogans: New Year; New YOU! Harper and Julia set up a table during the three different lunches with a poster that had the slogan on it. Students "signed” this poster by putting their handprint in paint on it. Their handprint symbolized their new year’s pledge to living a healthy life and promoting healthy habits. Each student who signed the pledge then received a keychain that was provided by the YOUTH Board. In doing this, the YOUTH Board helped promote healthy living for these students in the new year and advocated against negative habits. The posters were then hung in the school so that the students will remember their promise and try their best to have a healthy new year.

Athletic update for Tuesday, December 16:

The boys' middle school basketball game for tomorrow will now take place at Columbia Central instead of Hanover-Horton. This change will allow us to makeup the Columbia Central game canceled last week and not play Hanover-Horton for a second time this season. The 7th grade game will start at 4:30.

Go Comets!

This evening is Military Appreciation Night!

The men’s basketball program is having a Military Appreciation Night on Dec 5. We will be keeping it simple this year and will look to expand the event heading into the future. Free admission for active military and to our veterans. The varsity team will wear a camo style shooting shirt. At the conclusion of the varsity warm up, we will ask all veterans and active military to line the sidelines and baselines for the National Anthem to be sung by junior Amelia Trine.

Thank you to those who have served, are serving, and future individuals who are going to serve!

Military Appreciation night
We are having fun in Mrs. Mandrelle's 6th grade space science unit. We talked about the vastness of space and how the distances are almost impossible to comprehend! For example the average distance from the sun to Earth is 93 million miles! We used math and built a scale model of the solar system. We used beads and string. 1 astronomical unit (the average distance from Earth to the Sun) we agreed to represent as 10 centimeters. We then calculated all the other planet distances and tied them to the string. We had lots of great observations about the solar system.
