From Williams Elementary:
Last week in Ms. Walker’s 5th grade class students explored chemical reactions with baking soda, baking powder, vinegar, purple cabbage, ketchup, and mustard. Students recorded their observations as reactions occurred to help them determine which household items could be acidic.

From Williams Elementary School:
All 3rd grade students celebrated Michigan's birthday yesterday by singing Happy Birthday and eating cake! Michigan history is a part of the 3rd grade Social Studies curriculum.
Michigan became the 26th state to enter the Union on January 26, 1837.

It's school board appreciation month and Jonesville Community Schools would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to our school board members for their service to the district. I can honestly say, we have a school board who cares deeply about the staff and students. We are very fortunate. If you see any of these people: Travis Berlin, Tom Thompson, Sid Halley, Sherri Groves, Kayla Lewis, Scott Campbell or Abe Graves please extend your gratitude to them.

Mrs. Snyder's room had a transformation today! These third grade students became surgical interns under the teachings of Dr. Amiee Snyder, Array Surgeon. They worked on saving patients using the distributive property! They were given patient cards like Matthew Multiplication and Paul Product. They had to take their patient problem and find solutions using the distributive property.

Due to icy road conditions, Jonesville Community Schools will be closed today Monday, January 10th.

From Williams Elementary:
Yesterday students in Mrs. Snyder's 3rd grade classroom continued to work on the introduction of the distributive property. They spent time in the afternoon making "Array Monsters with horrible scars through their eyes"!
The students who finished their monsters have them displayed in the hall for the rest of the week for others to enjoy!

From Williams Elementary:
We recently recognized students who exhibit dependability as a "Student of the Month" for the month of December. (Any staff member is able to nominate a student.)
Congratulations to these 3rd-5th grade students! We are very proud of you!

Yesterday, students in Mrs. DeGuise’s 4th grade class worked on reviewing rules and procedures by creating posters. Each pair wrote about a rule/procedure and presented them to the class.

From Mrs. Snyder's 3rd grade classroom:
What a day!!!!
Mr. Grimm, Mr. Burlew, Mrs. Crabill, and Mr. Weatherwax came in and read to the class. The kids played holiday BINGO where they yelled out a Christmas related phrase and then won a book the first time and a Christmas item for the second BINGO. The kids worked on figuring area with the glow tape and after that they played rolling products with some glow dice.
It is safe to say that they had a very fun day before their Christmas break!

Yesterday, students in Mrs. Snyder's 3rd grade classroom enjoyed ornament making with Mrs. Crabill courtesy of Mary Mandrelle's ticket being pulled for the monthly PBIS Classroom Acknowledgement!

For the month of December, Ms. Walker’s 5th grade class was rewarded with hot cocoa and caroling for our PBSI monthly acknowledgments. Students enjoyed signing holiday songs to 3rd and 4th grade students and staff.

Ms. VanMeter did a math/budgeting lesson using gingerbread houses. Students earned "money" where they then wrote checks to purchase the supplies they wanted for their gingerbread houses. We thank all of our families that donated items to this! When we come together like this, students are able to have special learning experiences. Thank you to the families and Ms. VanMeter for such a great, and messy(!), idea!
