Good afternoon parents,
As you are probably aware, Governor Whitmer closed all of the schools in the state of Michigan from Monday, March 16th through Sunday, April 5th. That includes Jonesville Schools. For us, that will include two weeks of school and one week of spring break. We know that this is a great hardship on our families and have been working hard to develop a plan to continue the education of your children. We are hopeful that we will be back on April 6th and that our communities are healthy and our children have progressed in their learning.
Today we have had students clean out their lockers and take all of their learning materials home so they have access to all that they need. We also sent ipads and chromebooks with each one of them to use during the shut down. Teachers will be communicating with students over their devices so they can continue to learn while at home. They also have been given additional work materials and should read every day. As long as we are teaching and learning, these days will not have to be made up at the end of the year.
From previous surveys, we know that most of you have internet access at your homes. Wifi is available outside our school buildings and in the Jonesville park if you need it. Also, if you can access Comcast, they are offering free wifi to low income families. You can find out about that at www.internetessentials.com or call 1-855-846-8376.
We know that this will not be perfect, but our staff is going to try their best to make this successful. We appreciate any help that you are able to give your children. I do think it will be beneficial to establish a daily schedule with them. For your little ones, write it out and make it fun. For instance, at 9 o’clock we do a reading lesson, at 10 o’clock we do physical education, etc.. We are sad that we won’t have your kids here to have fun with us, but hopefully this will be an excellent memory for you when it is all over.
All athletic events, practices, trips, meetings, gatherings and fundraisers are cancelled during the shut down. Our outdoor facilities are also closed. If you take driver’s training, classes are not taking place at the school. The school play is also canceled for this weekend. Students will not be allowed access to the buildings at all. If you need materials from the school, please contact us and we will try to make a plan to get them to you.
The school buildings will not be open to visitors, but we can receive emails and can be contacted if you or your child has any questions. Our email addresses can be found at www.jonesvilleschools.org. Do not hesitate to get your questions answered.
Thank you so much for sharing your children with us. We look forward to working with you over the next two weeks. Please be safe and practice all measures to stay healthy as recommended here https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/home/index.html by the CDC..
Sincerely,
Chellie Broesamle
Superintendent, Jonesville Community Schools
